Theme

At first, I thought theme was the way the author described the setting, but I learned that this was wrong. Actually, theme is a central idea or insight about life and human nature that gives a story meaning. Some themes are universal, which means that they are commonly found in literature of all cultures and ages. The five main genres of literature are non-fiction, fiction, poetry, drama, and myth. Since I now understand theme, I can find the theme of my favorite movie. My favorite movie is "The Secret Life of Bees". The theme of this movie is: no matter what you experience, the color of your skin, or who you like and dislike and you feel that no one loves you, there is always someone who does. On my theme pretest, I was below grade-level. On my posttest, I hope that I will be at or above grade-level.
